Limited Edition 4 Color Plate Lithographs:

Prints designated as lithographs are 24x30 inches including a white border. In the four-color lithographic process I use, I start with one of my original acrylic paintings which usually takes anywhere from two to six weeks to paint and thru a photographic etching process, separate the many colors of the painting into the four primary colors--red, yellow, blue and black. These colors are composed of many tiny dots and dashes. From these color separations, which often require much hand-work to balance and even out the colors, four zinc printing plates are made, put on a printing press, inked with the primary colors, and then printed on 80-100 pound premium coated Quintessence paper. The printer I use has 4 and 6 color Heidelberg presses which allow us to see and adjust the color immediately as the prints come off the press. Miraculously, from these four plates, because of how the dots and dashes are combined, the finished prints seem to have the same number of colors as the original painting. Sometimes, in order to get the best match possible to the original, the prints are then put thru the press a second time. Only 275 finished prints and 25 artist's proofs are made. I then inspect each print and put in finishing touches by hand to make sure the quality is as true to the original as possible. Only then do I number and sign each print which certifies that it is a limited edition lithograph of my original work.
Price: $325 unframed.

Limited Edition Giclée Prints:

For my Giclée prints I begin with one of my original acrylic paintings. From this I take an 8 meg digital image with a Nikon 8700 camera. I play with the image in Photoshop to make sure the colors and details are as close to the original painting as possible.  The digital image is then put on large format HP 5000 printers. These printers produce images that have an extraordinarily high resolution. The dynamic color range is like a serigraph. In the Giclée process, a fine stream of ink - more than four million droplets per second - is sprayed onto archival art paper. The effect is similar to an airbrush technique but much finer. This produces a combination of 512 chromatic changes, (with over 3 million colors possible) of highly saturated, nontoxic water-based ink. I can print them at any size I choose, but prefer the 16 x 20 inch format printed on archival quality Legion Somerset Velvet art paper. Giclée prints capture every nuance of my original paintings and have gained wide acceptance from major institutions like the Chicago Art Institute, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Once the print is finished to my satisfaction, I inspect it and touch it up by hand if necessary. I then sign and number it to authenticate it as a limited edition Glicée art print from my personal collection.
Price: $275 unframed

Limited Edition Noritsu Prints:

The full-color Noritus prints that I make start with one of my original acrylic paintings. As with the Giclée prints, I take an 8 meg digital image with a Nikon 8700 camera, then play with the image in Photoshop to make sure the colors and details are as close to the original painting as possible.  I then have each image printed either as an 8x10, 10x12 or as a 16x20 inch image on Kodak Professional photographic paper with Noritsu 3200 printers--being careful to balance and match the colors to the original painting. Each print is carefully inspected and touched up by hand if necessary to assure quality and faithful reproduction. It is then signed and numbered to authenticate that it is a limited edition art print from my personal collection.
Price: $75 unframed for 8x10, $125 unframed for 10x12 or $225 unframed for 16x20.

Original Acrylic Paintings:

I usually paint my original pieces on either Masonite or Gator Board. After cutting the board to size--usually 32x40 inches--I sand the surface lightly to both smooth and roughen the surface to be painted on. I then apply 2 or 3 coats of Liquitex gesso to act as a ground for receiving the paint. Next I cover the board with paper and sketch out the image that has been perking in my head. Once I have the image worked out to my satisfaction, I transfer it from the paper to the board with blue transfer paper and begin the process of laying down the colors. Each color represents at least 5 different layers of thin acrylic to build up the density and give the saturation I want. After all the paint has been applied, I outline each part with india ink to put in the detail, then apply two final coats of clear acrylic finish. This process takes anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks depending on the amount of detail involved.

Unfortunately, I am one of those artists who cannot part with an original work. Once I've given the image life, it would be like selling one of my kids. Actually, come to think of it, I could sell my kids.  In fact, I recall trying to sell them several times during their teenage years, but I got no takers. Anyway, only under rare circumstances will I sell a painting and then only for lots and lots of money.

***ORIGINAL PAINTING UPDATE

For some reason, perhaps encroaching insanity or something, I have decided to take commissions on portrait paintings. As you can see from my other portraits in the gallery, I favor an "impressionistic" rendering rather than a photographic one. I don't know why, it just feels more satisfying to my inner artist.  Know what I mean?  Soooo... if you are interested in me doing a portrait of you or someone else, contact me and I'll fill you in on the details of price, size, sitting time, etc. This is going to be great fun!
